Friends of Guy Mason was organized in 1990 by neighborhood residents. Its declared purpose is to work in cooperation with city agencies to maintain, improve, and beautify the grounds and facilities of the Center. Throughout three decades of “park partner” agreements with the Department of Parks and Recreation, FOGM has repeatedly stepped forward to fulfill its mission. We installed and maintained the beautiful Fragrance Garden, landscaped the areas on both sides of the parking-lot entrance, installed a stroller path from Calvert Street to the playground, and completed a major improvement of the open area adjacent to Calvert Street with imaginative restoration of falling-apart--benches and planting a wide variety of pollinator-attracting flowers in plots behind the benches. Our most recent major project was the installation of the adult exercise equipment across the walkway from the playground. We have paid particular attention to the tree cover on the grounds – working to preserve the best of the old growth and to complement them with a diversity of choice new species.
